Darcourt Heading the Pack After Day 1b

Day 1b of the 2011 PokerStars.com EPT Barcelona is in the history books after the second flight of starters ran through their first nine levels on the felt. The final number for today was 465 and that put the grand total to 811 entrants, smashing past last year's record. With that record comes a whopping first-place prize of €850,000.

Leading the way after Day 1b is Guillaume Darcourt, who managed to bag up 195,300 in chips and top the pack. He'll take the overall chip lead into Day 2 tomorrow right along with his bright pink hair in hopes of blazing his way deep in the event.

Team PokerStars Pro was out in full effect yet again with players such as Eugene Katchalov, Jason Mercier, Leo Fernandez, Arnaud Mattern, Victor Ramdin, Ivan Demidov, Jonathan Duhamel and Matthias De Meulder. All of those players will be moving on to Day 2 while Viktor Blom, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Daniel Negreanu, Dario Minieri, Chris Moneymaker and John Duthie all hit the rail.

The remaining players from the two starting fields will return tomorrow at noon to continue their quest for EPT glory. Be sure to head right back here to PokerNews for all the live coverage of the event!

Sabat Eliminated

[user68268]

Dmitry Gromov raised to 1,800 from early position. One player in middle position called before the button also made the call and play moved to Eddy Sabat in the small blind. He reraised to 7,100 and Gromov folded. The next player reraised to about 75,000 but tossing out a big stack of chips. The player behind him folded and then Sabat called all in for his last 34,000 or so with the {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. He was up against the {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}.

The flop, turn and river ran out {Q-}{5-}{5-}{9-}{10-} to put Sabat in second place and send him to the rail.

Bye, Bye, Boeree

[user66118]

Carlos Gonzalez opened the pot to 1,500 from early position, and Liv Boeree three-bet big to 6,300. When it came back around to Gonzalez, he put another 20,000 on top, enough to put Boeree to the decision for her tournament life.

Showdown
Gonzalez: {A-Spades} {10-Diamonds}
Boeree: {J-Hearts} {J-Spades}

The lady was pleased to see she was much better than a coin flip here, and the first four cards were safe on the {Q-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {3-Hearts} board. The {A-Hearts} river was a disaster, though, and Gonzalez caught up to send the Team PokerStars Pro to the exit.

Katchalov's Underpair

[user66118] • Ниво 9: 400-800, 100 ante

We didn't see much of this pot, only walking up to the turn of a {4-Spades} {J-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} board. There was at least 50,000 piled in the middle of the table, though, and Eugene Katchalov made one of the larger bets we've seen today, 27,000 straight. He was heads-up with Timothy Marsters, and the latter would go on to spend the next several minutes agonizing in the tank.

"I'll ask the standard question," he spoke at one point. "Will you show if I fold?" Katchalov didn't respond, and Marsters continued his soak for a few more minutes. Finally, he uncapped his cards, shuffled the {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades} in between his hands, and finally dropped them onto the table, mucking them face-up.

There were a few hushed reactions of surprise at the table, and slowly, a wry smile appeared on the face of the Ukrainian. At the coaxing of the table, he finally flashed his own {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades}, his underpair good enough to take the pot.

With it comes another big chip increase, and this one vaults Katchalov into a dead heat for the overall lead with about 170,000. There or thereabouts.

Ramdin Sets Up a Double

[user66118] • Ниво 9: 400-800, 100 ante
Victor Ramdin
Victor Ramdin

Victor Ramdin has just doubled his way back into contention after getting his last ~12,000 into the middle with {3-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} on a {4-Spades} {3-Clubs} {K-Clubs} flop. He needed to fade the club outs of his opponent's {Q-Clubs} {J-Clubs}.

The {J-Diamonds} turn and {J-Spades} river were ultimately safe for Ramdin's set, and his full house has doubled him up to about 25,000.
