Day 3 of the Season 10 European Poker Tour Vienna saw the remaining 189 players of a 910-player field return to battle it out for five 90-minute levels. During that time the top 135 players made the money, but eventually the clock expired with just 50 players remaining in contention for the €816,000 first-place prize.

The man best positioned to make a run at the top prize is Pablo Gordillo, who emerged as the chip leader with 2,111,000. Gordillo grabbed the chip lead in Level 18 (3,000/6,000/1,000) when Portuguese pro Michel Dattani tried to run a big bluff. Unfortunately for him, it cost him his tournament life as Gordillo made a good call with pocket sevens.

Others who bagged up healthy stack were Anatoly Filatov (1,500,000), Timo Pfutzenreuter (1,065,000), Simeon Naydenov (1,040,000), and Miltiadis Kyriakides (1,034,000).

Of course not everyone was so lucky on Day 3. Among the 54 players to exit short of the money were Giacomo Fundaro, Luuk Gieles, Ruben Visser, Joep van den Bijgaart, Oliver Price, Dariusz Paszkiewicz, and Ronny Kaiser.

Kaiser fell in Level 16 (2,000/4,000/500) when Frei Dilling from Denmark opened the hijack with a raise to 8,000 and Artem Metalidi from the Ukraine moved all in for 97,500. Kaiser, who was in the small blind, thought for a while before eventually calling all in for 88,000. The big blind folded and so did Dilling.

The EPT Tallinn 2011 Champion was at risk with {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} against the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} of Metalidi. The flop came down {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, and the tournament director informed the railbirds that Kaiser needed either an ace or king. The {4-Clubs} on the turn left him just six outs, but none of them came when the {3-Clubs} completed the on the river to send the online star to the rail.

From there the in-the-money eliminations came fast and furious. Among those to fall were Sam Trickett (133rd - €8,700), Alexey Makarov (131st - €8,700), Jasper Wetemans (111th - €9,550), Jeff Rossiter (109th - €9,550), and the last EPT champion remaining in the field, Vladimir Geshkennein (81st - €10,650).

Also falling on Day 3 were Team PokerStars Pros Marc-Andre Ladouceur (124th - €8,700), Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (119th - €9,550), Henrique Pinho (56th - €12,600), and Alexander Kravchenko (55th - €14,600).

Likewise, both Full Tilt Poker Professionals — Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Gus Hansen — busted on Day 3. Blom ended up finishing in 77th place, while Hansen did a little better finishing in 71st place, which marked his first EPT cash in nearly a decade!

While many fell, there are still plenty of notables to keep an eye on heading into Day 4 including Wilfried Harig (1,005,000), Artem Metalidi (815,000), Jude Ainsworth (788,000), and the chip leader from Day 1a , Olekssi Khoroshenin. Furthermore, two Team PokerStars Pros are returning for Day 4 in Marcel Luske (512,000) and Johnny Lodden (477,000).

Day 4 action is set to kick off at Noon local time on Thursday. An hour later, the €10,000 High Roller will begin. Of course the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be bringing you updates from both events, so be sure to check back then. Until then, check out Kristy Arnett’s latest adventure where she Segways her way around the city:

Gergely Rona Busts

Webjoker • Ниво 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

Frei Dilling opened under the gun plus one to 16,000 and right next to him Gergely Rona moved all in for 184,000 from the hijack. Jonathan Roy in the small blind seemed interested and asked how much both players had. Roy then moved in and Dilling made the call all in for 186,000 total.

Gergely Rona: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Frei Dilling: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Jonathan Roy: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

Dilling was the favorite to triple up and did just that, busting Rona in the process. The {6-Spades}{J-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} board hit nobody and as Rona left the tournament area, Dilling stacked up three times as many chips as he had before the hand started.

Van Opzeeland Doubles

Webjoker • Ниво 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

With just a few hands left for the day, Marco van Opzeeland finally found his much anticipated double up. He didn't get much hands all day but when he did, he meant business.

With pocket aces he found Anatoly Filatov as an opponent. Van Opzeeland raised, Filatov shoved and Van Opzeeland called. Filatov had pocket fours and didn't improve.

Three More Hands

[user153638] • Ниво 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

The tournament staff has just announced that the remaining players will play three more hands before calling it a night. We're headed up to the tournament floor to catch any big hands that may occur, as well as to compile end-of-the-night chips counts and get the Day 4 seat draw.

Please stay tuned for those as well as a full recap of the Day 3 action.

Big Stack Filatov

[user252447] • Ниво 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante
Anatoly Filatov
Anatoly Filatov

Anatoly Filatov opened from the button for 16,000. Michael Tabarelli in the small blind raised him to 36,000 with just over 200k behind. The big blind folded and when it got back to Filatov he slid out a stack of 20 T25000 chips. Tabarelli meekly folded, such is the power of the big stack.

Filatov didn’t have it all his own way however as [Removed:40] decided to fight back on the next hand. On a flop of {3-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{a-Spades} Vitagliano bet 40,000 and Filatov made the call. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and Vitagliano continued for 11,000. It convinced Filatov to fold his hand.

Aces Versus Aces

Artem Metalidi
Artem Metalidi

Timo Pfutzenreuter opened under the gun to 17,000 after which action folded to Artem Metalidi on the button. The Ukrainian player made it 45,000 and both blinds quickly released. Action back on Pfutzenreuter who made a four bet to 110,000. Metalidi five bet to 175,000 and called after Pfutzenreuter six bet to 275,000.

{Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} on the flop and Pfutzenreuter bet out 120,000 with 472,000 behind. Metalidi made the call in position.

The {J-Diamonds} on the turn made Pfutzenreuter check and without much hesitation Metalidi declared all in for 415,000. Pfutzenreuter made the call rather quickly and they both tabled their cards.

Timo Pfutzenreuter: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}
Artem Metalidi: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}

Metalidi couldn't have been happy about that as Pfutzenreuter was free rolling him in an enormous pot. The river was a blank though with the {2-Clubs} and both players got an even part of the pot.
