One day is in the books at PokerStars Championship Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller, but it's merely a preliminary day of sorts, seeing as players are still free to enter as they please with Day 2 looming.

Indeed, 54 of 81 entries made it through on Day 1, though a few players — Daniel Negreanu, Mikita Badziakouski, and Ben Tollerene — had to fire three times.

Adrian Mateos finished as the leader, perhaps a fitting end in the biggest tournament in the backyard of one poker's most exciting and accomplished young tournament players. There's still a long way to go though, and he has competition from the likes of [Removed:412], Dan Colman and Steve O'Dwyer near the top of the chip counts.

After a relatively short Day 1, a long Day 2 is on tap that will see the players hopefully play down to a final table, although the possibility exists that things will wrap up before that milestone is reached.

The burgeoning prize pool already contains around €4 million, and we'll see if it gets any bigger thanks to last-minute entries. Blinds will be 3,000/6,000/1,000 at the start of play, and starts stacks are 250,000, so any players who enter will still have decent stacks above 40 big blinds.

Everything that develops today will be covered in full over at the PokerStars Blog, while we here at PokerNews have you covered on everything from a feature perspective.
