Event #44: $2,500 Seven Card Razz

We just heard a floor call to Table 287, and that's our cue to head in that direction too. When we walked up, there was 8,800 in the pot, and the hands had already been tabled.

John Cernuto was showing {2-}{4-}{5-}{5-}{6-}{9-}{j-}, and Frankie O'Dell had {a-}{4-}{5-}{6-}{8-}{10-}{k-}. The problem was that the dealer didn't burn cards on fifth or sixth streets, and Cernuto was a bit peeved. He'd have pulled a {7-} to make his hand on seventh street, apparently, but O'Dell had the superior eight-six as the cards lay. Nobody noticed the issue until after seventh street, and that ended up being the key factor in the ruling. The floor stated that there was significant action, and it could not be pulled back.

The pot goes to O'Dell, and Cernuto is dashed to about 6,000 now.

Epstein the Eliminator

We found Charles Townsend all in against Day 1 chip leader Scott Epstein on fourth.

Epstein: {4-}{A-} / {7-}{8-}
Townsend: {5-}{4-} / {2-}{A-}

Epstein made a nine-low on fifth and an eight-low on sixth while Townsend’s board ran out {A-}{K-}{10-} which gave him only a ten-low to eliminate him as Epstein's lead grew.

Stack Your Chips!

There was a brief dispute at the table right next to the media desk here in the Blue Section of the Amazon Room. Evidently, David Bach - who arrived late - hadn't stacked his chips upon arriving. Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri didn't like this, and asked him to do so. Bach did not accommodate him.

Barbieri then called the floor, and gave his side of the story while Bach sat quietly.

"It's not that big a deal, and it takes two seconds!" Sugar Bear spat.

"Sir," the floor said calmly to Bach. "Stack your chips when you have time."

Bach nodded, and the situation was diffused.

Dwan Wins First Hand, Then is Crippled

On the first hand of play at Table 283, Greg Dyer was heads up with Tom Dwan on fourth street. Dyer had {2-}{3-} in front of him, and Dwan had {7-}{3-}. Dyer bet, and Dwan called. Dyer bricked on fifth with a {q-}, Dwan picked up an {a-}, and Dyer check-folded.

"Let's try this again," Dwan said going into the next hand.

Justin "Boosted J" Smith (who had literally just sat down) brought in with a {10-}, Dyer completed with a {7-}, and Dwan called with a {4-}. Smith folded.

Dyer: (X)(X) / {7-}{k-}{10-}{9-} / (X)
Dwan: (X)(X) / {4-}{9-}{j-}{8-} / (X)

Dyer check-called bets from Dwan on every street, and after seventh Dwan announced, "Nine-eight-seven."

Dyer opened up {2-}{4-}{5-} for a nine-seven-five though, winning him the pot and crippling Dwan.

Mercier Jacked Up

[user66118] • Ниво 9: 600-1,200, 100 ante

Jason Mercier completed with a {5-}, and Orjan Skommo raised showing a {3-}. Off they went.

Mercier: (X)(X) / {5-}{2-}{5-}{q-} / (X)
Skommo: (X)(X) / {3-}{10-}{6-}{q-} / (X)

Mercier picked up the lead on fourth and bet it, and Skommo bet his new lead on fifth. Mercier called there, and he called another Skommo bet on sixth street. Seventh went check-check, and Skommo said, "You got it," flashing a {7-}.

Mercier rolled over {j-}{7-}{6-} down, and his jack-low was good enough. Dragging that pot, Mercier crosses over 20,000 here in the early going.

The call has been made, and Day 2 is a go.

Razz: Part II

Welcome back for Day 2 of the $2,500 Razz event, the only one like it this summer. Our event began with a robust 363 players, and after a day of play, more than half of them are already long gone. Just 157 players survived the opening eight levels.

We must have been looking the other way when he won a big pot because Scott Epstein appears to have snuck into the top spot in the overnight counts ahead of the guy we had, George Lewis. Epstein begins this second day with 48,900 chips to set the pace. Also in the top ten Tommy Chen, Hoyt Corkins, George Lind III, and Chad Brown.

Our restart was pushed back until 4:00 P.M. today, just about a half hour from now. The dealers are huddled around a pair of tables waiting for the bags to come out, and the Blue section of the Amazon Room will soon be abuzz with activity.

We're playing a truncated nine-level day today which should allow us to finish up right at 3:00 A.M. Our starting time is approaching, and we'll be back with the shuffle up and deal in just a bit.
