Dawley Drags the Pot

Shamus

Jessica Dawley and Anna Lundholm were just now involved in a pot in which Dawley started with the button and Lundhom began in the big blind. The flop came {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, Lundholm checked, Dawley bet 3,200, Lundholm check-raised to 6,400, and Dawley called. Both players then checked the {K-Diamonds} turn.

The river brought a fourth diamond to the board — the {7-Diamonds} — and a bet of 9,000 from Lundholm. Dawley thought a bit, then called, showing {9-Spades}{7-Clubs} for trip sevens. Lundholm mucked.

Sorensen Survives

Shamus

We're already hearing the call of "Payout!" as short-stacked players begin to bust. Not all are seeing their Day 2s end immediately, though.

Maria Sorensen started today pushing the last of her 4,200 all in from middle position. It folded to Heike Messerschmidt who then reraised all in herself. "Oh sh*t!" said Sorensen. "I mean… oh, good!" she added with a grin.

The others folded, Sorensen showed {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, and Masserschmidt {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. The flop was definitely worth another "all good" from Sorensen, coming {3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, and after the {9-Clubs} turn and {7-Diamonds} river, Sorensen survives.

Onnit? We're On It

Shamus

As the field shrinks we'll be occasionally looking in on a "game-within-the-game" happening with the ladies event, the Onnit Labs' Last Sticker Standing Contest. Out of the 50 or so ladies sporting Onnit stickers to start the event, nine have made it through to today's Day 2. Suzie Matzura, Natlie Metlach, and Sarah Grant have the biggest stacks among the nine to start the day, while Joan Sparks and Marie Martin are the shortest.

The one among that group who outlasts all of the others will earn a nifty $750 extra for doing so, not a bad addition considering a minimum cash is $1,601.

Making Room for the Ladies

Shamus

It looks like the restart of Day 2 will be delayed just a few minutes today as we are looking at a packed Amazon Room in which multiple events are ongoing.

The ladies only need 13 tables, though, to continue with their event, and it looks like almost that many have opened up for the Event 51 restart. Cards in the air soon!

The Bubble Having Burst, Ladies Return for Day 2

Shamus
Gaelle Baumann
Gaelle Baumann

Welcome back to Day 2 of Event 51, the $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold'em Championship! Late last night play was extended just a couple of hands beyond Level 10 to ensure the bursting of the cash bubble, meaning all 117 who survived from the original field of 936 to today have made the money.

There's a lot left be determined, of course, including whether Gaelle Baumann of France will continue to accumulate chips as she did for most of the day on Friday.

Baumann ended the day atop the counts, with Lara Boutros — also hailing from France — about a big blind behind, and Sweden's Anna Lundholm and the American Myra Thompson close on their heels.

Plenty of other notables will be returning today as well, including J.J. Liu and Erica Schoenberg (in the top ten), and Leo Margets, Mandy Baker, Sarah Grant, Lisa Parsons, and many others returning to above average stacks. Defending champion Marsha Wolak also made the money again this time around, picking up some chips near the end of play on Day 1 to assist in her efforts to make another deep run.

As proceedings went a little later than planned last night, today's start time was pushed back an hour to begin at 2 PM local time. Join us then for all the coverage as the final 117 players start working on how they'll be dividing up the $842,400 prize pool, as well as who among them will emerge as the next recipient of a gold WSOP bracelet.
