Fitoussi Gone

Josh_Cahlik

We got to the table to find Bruno Fitoussi all in and at risk before the flop. Fitoussi's all in was called by both Jason Mercier and Toby Lewis.

The flop came {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Lewis checked. Mercier bet 14,000 and Lewis called. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and they both checked to see the {5-Clubs} on the river. Two more checks prompted them to table their cards. Lewis showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Mercier showed the {k-Hearts} and then mucked.

Fitoussi tabled {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs} for nothing and was eliminated from the tournament.

Cheong Ships From the Small Blind

[user153638]

Action folded around to Joseph Cheong in the small blind and he simply moved all in to put the pressure on the short-stacked Joe Kuether, who ended up calling off for 56,500 total.

Showdown
Kuether: {A-Hearts}{4-Clubs}
Cheong: {Q-Clubs}{3-Spades}

The {A-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop was kind to Kuether as it paired his ace and gave him a big lead. The {3-Diamonds} turn was pause for concern as Cheong picked up a gut-shot straight draw, but there was no need to worry as the {7-Diamonds} peeled off on the river.

ElkY vs. Boeree

[user153638]

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier opened for 10,000 from the hijack and received a call from Stephane Albertini in the cutoff. Liv Boeree then came in with a three-bet to 31,000 from the button, both blinds folded, and Grospellier moved all in for 152,000. Albertini got out of the way and Boeree made the call.

Showdown
Grospellier: {Q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Boeree: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

It was a quintessential flip headed to the flop, which came down {3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. It was safe for Grospellier, as were the {8-Diamonds} turn and {3-Clubs} river. Boeree just shook her head and sent over a good portion of her chips.

Joe McGowan raised to 12,000 from the button and JC Alvarado three-bet all from the small blind. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier called from the big blind and McGowan folded.

Grospellier: {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Alvarado: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

The board fell {10-Spades}{3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and Alvarado was able to score the double up. He's currently sitting on about 190,000 while Grospellier has fallen to 135,000.

Benyamine Beats a Bluff

Kyle Julius just raised to 10,500 and both Curt Kohlberg and David Benyamine called. The flop came down {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and all three players checked.

On the turn the {7-Clubs} hit and Benyamine bet 14,500. Julius folded and Kohlberg made the call.

The river brought out the {9-Hearts} and Benyamine bet 27,000. Kohlberg went into the tank for quite some time before eventually raising to 65,000. Benyamine called rather quickly and Kohlberg turned over {10-Spades}{9-Spades}. Benyamine showed {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, and took down the pot with a straight.

"I only beat a bluff," Benyamine sighed as he started stacking his new chips. He climbs up some more while Kohlberg is still doing great.

Fox's Bid at Back-to-Back Championships Comes to an End

[user153638]
Elio Fox
Elio Fox

In the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event, a young man from New York by the name of Elio Fox outlasted a field of 593 players to win €1,400,000 and his first bracelet. Fox returned to Cannes this year looking to defend his title, and while he made a good run at it, that bid was just cut short.

In what would be his last hand, action folded around to Jason Mercier on the button and he raised to 10,000. Fox then moved all in for approximately 80,000 from the big blind and Mercier made the call.

Showdown
Mercier: {A-}{Q-}
Fox: {A-}{8-}

Both players held an ace, but Mercier had the better kicker. That's what ended up making the difference as the board ran out {5-}{5-}{2-}{K-}{7-} and Fox followed up last year's win with a 39th-place finish for €21,250.
